The Wellness Years
13 years as a massage therapist. Where I learned to see systems.
Learning to See
Massage therapy isn't about muscles.
It's about patterns. Where tension lives. What holds it there. How one tight spot ripples through the whole system.
You learn to feel what's connected. The shoulder that's actually a hip problem. The headache that starts in the jaw. The back pain that's really about stress.
You develop intuition for systems. Where the actual problem is versus where the symptoms show up. What needs direct intervention versus what needs space to resolve itself.
The Skills That Transferred
Pattern Recognition - After thousands of sessions, you see patterns instantly. The same applies to codebases, workflows, data structures. The ability to quickly identify what's actually happening beneath the surface.
Root Cause Thinking - Never treat symptoms. Find the source. This is debugging. This is process improvement. This is why my automations actually solve problems instead of just moving them around.
Client Communication - Explaining complex body mechanics to someone in plain language. Same skill as explaining technical solutions to stakeholders. Meeting people where they are.
Sustainable Intervention - The goal is always to make yourself unnecessary. Build the client's body awareness. Teach them to maintain their own health. Same with automation - build systems that empower teams, not create dependencies.
Why This Matters
I'm not a career developer who learned to code as a teenager.
I came to technology through a different path. Through years of working directly with people. Understanding their pain points. Learning what actually helps versus what just looks helpful.
This perspective shapes everything I build.
The automations aren't about technical elegance. They're about removing friction from people's work lives. Giving them back time for the things that matter.
